Turning complex telematics data into smart and scalable solutions.

In our previous posts, we’ve covered a variety of solutions – but never anything quite this big. We just want to highlight and reaffirm one simple truth: if you build roads, rails, and entire cities, you simply don’t cut corners on the foundation.

Connectic is a dynamic company with strong expertise in IoT, ERP integration, and custom software development, operating from offices in Belgium and France. Their own team includes skilled system and software engineers and business analysts who collaborate closely to deliver tailored, high-quality solutions.

As an integrator, the company specializes in fleet and asset tracking, ERP implementations, and the development of custom apps and SaaS platforms. In practice, their experience is deeply rooted in the construction and transportation industries, where they help clients optimize operations, improve asset management, and drive digital transformation.

“At Connectic, we combine technical know-how with business insight to create innovative, scalable solutions that meet the complex needs of our customers. Whether it's integrating IoT devices with existing ERP systems or building custom software platforms, we are committed to excellence and customer success.”

Challenges

Connectic started working with Wialon for fleet management and quickly faced the challenge of working with multiple data sources for multiple destinations. The team chose flespi because of its “proven reliability, flexibility, and ease of integration with multiple IoT devices and telematics protocols”. The platform’s ability to handle large volumes of data efficiently and offer a unified API was crucial. Additionally, strong developer support and an active community gave them confidence that it would be a robust backbone for their solutions.

“We wanted to address larger customers with larger fleets. Our key business goal is to remain independent and “agnostic” toward any hardware or platform suppliers. We also wanted to be able to propose unified solutions to our customers. We aimed to improve fleet and asset management accuracy, reduce operational costs, and enable real-time data-driven decision making. Scalability and the ability to quickly deploy new services were also top priorities to support our growth ambitions.”

The Connectic team needed an API platform that could handle high data throughput reliably and support a wide range of device protocols out of the box. Critical factors included low latency for near real-time data access, strong security features, and comprehensive documentation to streamline integration. The ability to provide flexible data transformation and filtering was essential to adapt raw telemetry data to the specific needs of their custom applications and ERP interfaces.

Solution

Protocol-agnostic data ingestion and a unified API were key to quickly connecting a wide variety of tracking devices without needing to develop custom parsers. Its scalability and reliable data streaming enabled them to build real-time fleet and asset monitoring solutions tailored to clients’ needs in the construction and transport sectors.

The integration was deep and seamless. Flespi serves as the central hub for all telemetry data, which Connectic then connects to the business platforms of their customers. Thanks to the flexible API and extensive protocol support, the company standardized data flows and ensured smooth interoperability across multiple systems.

“The communication is efficient and collaborative. Flespi’s team is very responsive and provided clear technical documentation and support, which greatly facilitates integration. Regular exchanges help address challenges quickly and align on implementation details. What was used exceptionally? Clearly, it was the data streaming first. Now the analytics engine is gaining more space, with calculators and plug-ins. On top of that, codi, AI agent is a very useful and powerful tool for the system engineering team, who can quickly get answers to their questions and save time.”

Customer Use Case

Connectic, as the integrator, shared the story of one of their clients. NGE is a leading construction and civil engineering group operating across Europe, specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects including roads, railways, and urban development. Managing a vast fleet of vehicles and heavy machinery across numerous sites, NGE sought to improve operational efficiency by gaining real-time visibility into asset locations, utilization, and condition.

Their goal was to implement a comprehensive fleet and asset tracking solution capable of integrating data from a wide variety of tracking devices and sensors already deployed on their equipment. They needed a system that could centralize this diverse telemetry data, synchronize it with their existing ERP platform, and enable data-driven decision-making to optimize maintenance, allocation, and compliance.

Here, flespi acted as the central data hub, capable of ingesting data from heterogeneous sources – GPS trackers, CAN bus modules, and third-party telemetry devices – using its extensive protocol support and real-time data streaming capabilities. This eliminated the need for developing custom parsers or middleware, accelerating the deployment.

“We configured flespi to parse, filter, and normalize incoming data streams, exposing them via unified REST and MQTT APIs. Connectic built a middleware layer that seamlessly connected this live telemetry data with NGE’s ERP system and asset management applications. This integration enabled automated synchronization of asset location, operating hours, and status, embedded directly into NGE’s operational workflows.”

Critical to success was ensuring data accuracy and minimal latency, essential for timely operational decisions on active construction sites. High-performance cloud infrastructure and built-in security features ensured reliable, secure, and near-real-time data delivery.

The result was a powerful telematics solution allowing NGE to optimize fleet usage, reduce downtime through proactive maintenance, and enhance safety monitoring. The project’s adaptability enabled rapid scaling across multiple sites, supporting diverse device types and operational needs.

In short, the collaboration demonstrated how combining IoT data management capabilities and the integrator's expertise could transform complex industrial fleet operations into efficient, data-driven systems.

Feedback
