December 2024 change log

Major flespi improvements in December 2024.

Looks like global warming is taking hold. In 2024, both Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Lithuania were foggy, wet, and snowless. A few hundred years of this trend, and we might be swimming in the Baltic Sea in December — that’s definitely not the legacy I want to leave for my descendants. To help prevent such a disaster, we at flespi are working hard to deliver top-notch telematics services through products that help preserve our planet's resources. A couple of years ago, I calculated our decarbonization efforts as equivalent to planting 100 trees daily. But there’s still a need for many more green trees…

In December, our monthly uptime was 100% for the third time in a row. This brought our yearly uptime in 2024 to 99.9959%four nines and a half, with just 1,285 seconds of unavailability (slightly over 21 minutes) for the entire year. This is an impressive number for a telematics SaaS platform operating at such a high development pace, and I’m truly proud of it. For your convenience, here is the uptime chart for the last seven years:

As you can see, the year 2021, with a remarkable five-nines 99.9990% uptime, remains unbeatable. Let’s hope that in 2025, we can set an even higher record.

We integrated two new channel protocols: assistant-telematics and generic jt808. JT808 was implemented with all video functionality defined by the original Chinese protocol.

To improve streaming transparency, we started writing detailed information about each message delivery into the stream log. This makes stream operations highly transparent, allowing you to trace the delivery status and result for every message.

We introduced a handy new UI feature: the ability to take a screenshot or record a screencast directly from your browser to illustrate something in your flespi account. You can then send it directly to the flespi team via chat. The feature was made possible by the modern tech stack in web browsers and is powered by WebRTC casting. It works best in Chrome, effectively restricting the captured portion of the screen to the contents of your flespi.io tab only.

We significantly expanded the number of realms available to users on Pro and Enterprise plans. This allows you to use the flespi authentication system based on realms, with a dedicated realm (and its own set of users) for each client organization.

Just before Christmas, we published our roadmap for 2025. One of our intentions for the year is to actively pursue direct vehicle OEM integrations into flespi via their API services. This step appears to have been highly anticipated by our user base. Within days of the roadmap’s release, we received numerous messages from users eager to be among the first to test these integrations. Of course, everyone has their preferred OEM, and with so many vehicle manufacturers and API systems in the telematics world, we’ll prioritize and integrate them one by one. Wanna your OEM connected to flespi soon? Drop us a message in the flespi chat!

For flespi, this year was particularly successful. We reached our first million devices, signed more companies to commercial contracts than ever before, and saw our users create and register more telematics devices in flespi than in any previous year. What stands out even more, in my opinion, is that the companies building their telematics systems on flespi are growing their businesses much faster than the average telematics-related company. This observation comes from comparing our statistics with analytical reports from Berg Insight. It’s proof that our product, support, and services truly make a difference. And that’s incredibly inspiring!

And last but not least, we announced the telematics conference we’re organizing this September in Vilnius. It’s set to be one of the most remarkable events in our industry this year — and likely the only one tailored specifically for technical professionals in Telematics, including software engineers, Product Managers, CTOs, CIOs, and others. And also the only event where you can meet the most well-known telematics platform competitors under the same roof speaking thoughtfully and presenting their solutions to a wide audience. I also believe it’s the only one with business and technical tracks combined to cater to both. So, I definitely recommend attending the event and enjoying a wonderful and fruitful week in Vilnius. The date and location are already confirmed, so you can safely book your flight once your participation is secured.

Stay tuned, and I hope to see you this fall!
